Answer: When you need more space.

Let’s play a guessing game. OK, you need a structure to store some items. Things like ATVs or lawn furniture. Maybe you need a place to stack wood or hay? Maybe park a tractor and some accessories? What about a covered play area for the kids or a pavilion to put a bar-b-que table under? What about down by the pond for a boat house, or a secret cover in the woods? You also want something that is solid and will last, something that will stand up to the elements. You want something that can be light enough to move but strong enough to bolt down. And, most important of all you want it to be low maintenance.

Give up? I’m talking about a carport, yes, a carport, you see them next to houses everywhere. Think a little out of the box with me here, a carport is just a free standing solid cover that you can put almost anywhere. If you live in warmer states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia or Tennessee you don’t always need something that is enclosed by four walls and a carport can be just the answer. If you live some place where weather is a problem there are options like partial walls, gables or doors. Either way a carport has it covered, pun intended.

Metal carports come in a very wide selection of sizes and colors to fill almost any situation. Most have convenient options to choose from depending on your needs. Manufactured from the highest quality materials to provide long lasting, maximum protection you can have the carport delivered right to your prepared site or you can assemble them yourself. Offering different roof shapes, gable styles and coming in widths from single to triple wide your local dealer will help you make the right choice for your particular situation. Many times your local dealer can help with any special customization you may want.

Because of light weight galvanized steel construction they can be carried in and assembled in places not reachable by a conventional truck. They can be permanently anchored in place or disassembled and moved to a new location or stored, under another carport maybe? Steel construction is about durability, the metal roof and side panels are sealed in resistant coatings to withstand moisture and chemicals. The carport structure, made of galvanized steel is better able to withstand the effects of wind and weather then old traditional wood construction. There are coatings, finishes, and styles available for most environments but as always, check with local building authorities before making any decisions.

If you use your imagination a carport can be more than just a place to park cars. It can be a durable and economical solution to a variety of storage or location issues, you just have to think out of the box. But in the end maybe you just need a little extra covered space right next to your existing garage? Well a delivered metal carport can do the too.

Storage barns and sheds have a number of valuable advantages, especially in places like West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. Traditionally, in the Southeast many types of sheds or barns have been used to store everything under the sun, but the consequences of stashing an expensive lawn mower or tractor in a drafty tobacco barn can be severe. Rust, mold, dry rot and damage from rodents can make this seemingly convenient method of storage a costly choice, not to mention the dangers involved in storing your valuable farm and garden equipment in an unsecured building. Storage sheds on the other hand, offer a wide range of affordable, cost effective options to make sure your lawn and garden equipment are protected from the elements, but they can serve other, equally valuable purposes as well.

With so many small businesses these days operating out of a garage or spare bedroom, a delivered storage barn can make it possible for you to move your operation into a dedicated building on your own property, and free up the dining room table again for more important matters (like dinner, for example!). That can be particularly valuable option for small business owners in places like West Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, where home based businesses are prevalent, and most people have sufficient room to expand. If you have a landscaping business, you may need a place to store your equipment over the winter. Maybe you are a professional and need a work environment during the spring and summer when business is at its peak. A wood, vinyl or steel storage building (which, in most cases can be delivered directly to your property) will not only provide you with dedicated office space to help you keep track of your accounts from, they can help protect your investment from winter weather. Other home based businesses like beauty salons, antique shops, thrift stores, auto body shops, quilting and sewing supplies shops, and appliance repair shops can be housed in a custom storage barn, allowing you to be your own boss, but still be able to walk away from your business at the end of the day. And because storage sheds are affordable and easy to move, you have the flexibility of knowing that if you need to add additional buildings, move an existing building to a new location, or repurpose the storage shed you are currently using, you have the ability to make changes in where and how you use your shed to maximize your business potential with a minimum of effort.

One other advantage of investing in a storage barn of course is that they allow you to provide for an expanding family. A shed delivered to your place gives you room to store furniture, blankets, knickknacks, baby clothes, Christmas decorations, or old paperwork, so you can clear out the spare bedroom to make room for guests, aging parents or college kids who need a place to crash for the summer. Delivered storage sheds offer the versatility you need to decide if you want to store lawn and garden equipment over the winter, if its time to move your home based business to its own location somewhere on your property, or if you need additional space for Grandma and her things. With so many choices about the kind of storage you may need, you also have the ability to decide on the size, layout, budget and type of building materials that will best suit your needs. Best of all, you have options with storage sheds that let you expand, organize, or prioritize according to your specific needs. That beats a drafty old barn any day!

Storage sheds and barns can be your best defense in protecting your expensive lawn equipment from harsh winter elements in North Carolina. Wood storage sheds, vinyl storage sheds or steel storage sheds not only provide you with the kind of dedicated space necessary to ensure that your lawn and garden equipment survive the harsh winter months, they are a cost effective way to take care of your equipment. And because most storage sheds can be delivered to your property, you have the peace of mind in knowing that your lawn mowers, tractors, leaf blowers, chain saws and even fertilizer will be protected from rust, mold and even rodents. There are a number of options available with respect to the kind of storage shed you may wish to invest in, and of course the different wood, steel and vinyl storage sheds each have their advantages, but the main thing is to prepare your equipment to withstand rain, snow and freezing temperatures so once they are properly housed, you can rest assured that your lawn and garden equipment will be in top operating condition when you need them the most.

Here are a few tips to ensure that once you chose the right storage shed to house your lawn equipment in, they will not only survive the elements, but be ready to use in the spring without spending a fortune on professional cleaning and maintenance.

1. Gas that sits in a mower all winter can clog the carburetor. You have two choices; you can run the engine until the gas is gone, or you can fill the tank and add fuel stabilizer. But don’t just park the mower or tractor in a storage unit in the fall and leave it there until next spring. And if you do add fuel stabilizer, be sure to run the engine for bout five minutes to ensure that the stabilizer filters through the carburetor

2. Change the oil before storing for the winter to extend the life of the engine. You may also want to charge the battery, bearing in mind that you will need to charge the battery periodically throughout the winter since lawn mower and tractor engines will not recharge on their own when you begin using the equipment again in the spring.

3. Clean the mower with mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly to make sure any lawn clippings are loosened from the mowing deck. If you fail to clean the mower before storing it, the clipping will likely mold and the metal parts will rust. You may also want to replace any worn or broken parts at this time. Replacing deck belts in the winter makes more sense than waiting until the spring when the mower is in use. Sharpening the blades before storing your mower for the winter also makes sense, because when spring rolls around and you need the mower or tractor to be in top operating condition, it will roll right out of the storage unit and be ready for action.

Southern winters found in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia or Tennessee can do a real number on your lawn equipment, but a quality storage shed can provide the optimum solution for protecting this valuable investment, and because most storage sheds or barns can be delivered and installed anywhere on your property, selecting the right storage shed may be just what you need to make sure your lawn and garden equipment are properly cared for no matter what the season.

Part of the fun of designing a modular barn is the ability to put your own stamp on it. After all, you select the horse you want based on factors ranging from why you want one in the first place, to the chemistry you feel with that particular animal, so why should you be forced to have a cookie cutter barn or shed row barn in which to house your equine family? Modular barns come in all shapes and sizes of course, and what might work for you, might not appeal to your neighbor at all. But that’s the whole point. Instead of spending a lot of money hiring a builder and purchasing all the lumber and supplies, you could have a modular barn, designed to your specifications, delivered to your property and set up by a professionals anywhere you want it to be. You get to decide how many stalls it has, what color to paint it, if it has a loft, or an office, how many stalls, or if you need to include a tack room.

Barns are enchanting. If they weren’t, there wouldn’t be an entire subculture devoted to calendars, coffee table books, paintings, advertising, and literature about barns of all kinds. Where would half the reality TV shows be today if it weren’t for some barn fresh treasure found under a pile of burlap sacks that turned out to be worth a small fortune? From dark corners hiding the promise of some secret stash, to light filled hay lofts and the soft mewl of a new litter of kittens, barns command the imagination in ways that go back hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of years. Wouldn’t it be great to put that imagination to work building the modular barn of your dreams, one that puts you in charge and lets you work with a group of professionals who can guide you through the process of making your dreams a reality?

Say you have just a few acres and you want to get a pony for the kids, a goat or two, and some chickens. You don’t need a giant barn because you aren’t going to use all the space. But what if you have plans to expand your stables to board horses for other people to help bring in some cash? The ability to add or move shed row barns and run in sheds to various places on your property would be invaluable. If you plan to develop a breeding program, you’ll need a place for foaling; if your desire is to be more self sufficient by raising farm animals and growing your own crops to put food on the table, you have the ability to customize a barn that will allow you to store tools and equipment for your garden, and a provide shelter for your livestock.

No matter how you look at it, barns provide for a range of needs, not the least of which is the chance to be flexible with respect to where you put them, how you use them and what memories they help you build with your family. Who would have thought that a modular barn could do all that?

West Virginiais home to 60,000 horses and a booming recreational horse industry, providing nearly 13,000 equine related jobs that helps bring in more than $500 million to theWest Virginia’s economy. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. TheWest Virginiaequine industry has quietly grown into a major economic industry according to the state’s equine economic impact study, and with modular horse barns housing most of those 60,000 horses, theWest Virginiahorse barn industry is booming almost as fast as the equine industry itself.

With the main focus in West Virginia on breeding, boarding and training as well as education, recreation, and youth organizations such as 4-H and the Pony Club, West Virginia has a long and storied history as a state with a deep and abiding appreciation for horses. Although many family farms have been handed down for generations, new horse owners looking to provide adequate shelter for their animals means educating yourself on the available options, from where to store your tack and feed, to the type of barn for the kind of horse, mule or pony you get. Since recreational horseback riding is the number one reason why most people inWest Virginia get a horse in the first place, you need to be able to care for your horses by providing them with the best barn you can afford. Modular barns, run-in sheds and portable stalls may throw the field wide open, so to speak, with respect to the kinds of horses you own, and your reasons for owning them, and because they are cost effective, they may be the most viable option available when you consider the financial impact of hiring an architect, to the cost of building materials themselves.

Maybe you always wanted to own a horse but didn’t think you could afford one, or you want your kids to have horses or ponies because you didn’t (or couldn’t) when you were growing up. Maybe horses have been a part of your family’s history for generations, but not on the scale they used to be. Maybe you have a huge horse operation, either because you board horses for other people, or because you’ve taken the family horse tradition and expanded it to meet your current goal. Modular horse barns can be custom designed and delivered (usually free of charge), allowing you to have the horse of your dreams in a perfectly designed, cost effective, easy to care for modular building. And the best part is, you don’t have to do a single thing but decide on which floor plan, how much additional storage space you need for things like tack, feed and equipment, and what you want to pay, because delivered modular horse barns come in all shapes and sizes to fit every budget.

Now all YOU have to do, is decide which one of West Virginia’s horse trails you want to ride, then round the family up for an awesome day on horseback in one of the most beautiful states on the planet! And when you get home, there will be a clean, efficient modular barn or run in shed waiting to take your horses in for the night while you head into the house with the rest of the family…..

When you think of horses, you don’t necessarily think of Georgia as having much of a horse economy, but in the past few years,Georgia has seen revenue from the horse industry add $300 million in general funds to state coffers, and over $750 million dollars in breeding related costs alone. As a matter of fact, there are more than 230,000 horses inGeorgia, and with such popular breeds as the Quarter Horse, Paint, Appaloosa, and American Saddlebred, Georgia is the perfect place to start your own equine empire, or add to the one you already have.

One of the most appealing aspects of horse ownership in Georgia is just how practical the choice of horses is. While American Saddlebreds are becoming more popular for dressage competitions, and the Georgia International Horse Park (which was built in 1996 as the equestrian venue for the Summer Olympics) features state of the art facilities for equestrian events and competitions with high profile breeds like the Tennessee Walking Horse, by and large, Georgia horse owners seem drawn to horses for less showy purposes and more for their recreational value.

You may also not think of modular barn delivery as an option in the land of stick built homes and businesses, but modular horse barns provide an array of options that allow horse owners to match their needs while also being careful to meet allGeorgiabuilding and zoning code requirements in the process. Most areas require a building permit to build a horse barn, but actual regulations vary considerably. Check with your local planning or zoning department to make sure you have the proper permits, then select a barn style that takes into account how many horses you have, if you plan to expand, and the one thing most horse owners tend to overlook; the importance of sufficient space to move your horses easily throughout the barn, to store feed and supplies, and to make cleaning stalls and aisles easier. One of the most common barn styles has a center aisle with a single row of stalls on both walls, but the double-row barns, with two rows of stalls back-to-back in the center, is more suitable for warmer climates. In addition, adequate drainage is important is important especially in Georgia where weather patterns can be wildly unpredictable.

One of the advantages of having your barn delivered to your property, especially in Georgia, is cost. Do-it-yourself kits fail to include things like the additional cost of a concrete foundation, nails, roofing, shipping, or the labor (and time it takes) to build the barn in the first place. Modular barns help solve most of those issues because the work is already done, and most barns can be delivered free of charge within a 200 mile radius. So if you chose a horse breed because its easy to take care of and practical for your family’s needs, then why not chose a delivered horse barn that is suited to your horses and your budget, that makes having a low maintenance horse, low maintenance to house as well?

Tennessee is known for many things, not the least among them the magnificent Tennessee Walking Horse. Bred to be ridden by plantation owners over the varied terrain of their estates, this stunning animal is the perfect storm of temperament, gait, and stamina, and while their boarding needs are not substantially different from those of other horse breeds, they require (along with the other equines in your care) proper living quarters to provide maximum benefit and enjoyment for all concerned. The University of Tennessee Extensioneven prepared a detailed set of plans for barns that focus on the dual issues of weather and usage, and because modular barns are designed to address most of these issues, they may provide the perfect solution when considering things like weather, drainage, and location for your own barns and outbuildings. An added benefit of modular barns is that they are easy to customize according to whether you are running a professional operation, or you keep horses, mules or other equines for recreational enjoyment.

Modular barns may have number of other advantages over more traditional buildings when it comes to providing for the needs of your horses as well, particularly given the vast and often abrupt shifts in the geography of the state. Modular barns are easy to move, making them more versatile over the long haul than stick built buildings, plus you can add specific features to your barns as your needs or the scope of your operation changes. Whether you live inCentral Tennessee where the land is flat, or in the Appalachian Mountain range, modular buildings adapt easily to your location and your choice of horses. Plus the extreme shifts in weather need to be factored in as well. From stifling humidity to 12 inches of snow, being prepared with the proper buildings to house your animals year round is vital to the health and well being of your animals (not to mention your pocketbook). One other advantage of modular buildings is that they can be built to order and delivered to your property and all are designed to meet the building codes of the state.

Of course, not every horse owner inTennesseeowns a Tennessee Walking Horse, but since it is the official state horse of Tennessee, it is worth noting that the town ofShelbyvillehosts a National Celebration of this uniquely identifiable horse every year. Drawing over 30,000 breeders, exhibitors, and spectators from across the country, the Celebration also includes a barn decorating contest (which isn’t surprising given how important barns are to owning horses of any kind), plus it also showcases the unique physiology and the exceptional gait of the Walking Horse. These horses can quickly outdistance most other horses without expending much energy thanks to their “rocking chair canter” (which is actually a collected gallop). Other fun facts about the Tennessee Walking Horse; it was one of the breeds used as the Lone Ranger’s horse, Silver, as the successor to the original Trigger, and as the mascot of the University of Southern California’s Trojans football team.

So whether you have a Tennessee Walking Horse, or a Shetland pony, taking care of your horses is vital to celebrating the advantages of your own horse ownership, and what better place to start than with the proper boarding facilities and a modular barn built to order and delivered to your property where you can host your own “barn decorating contest” one day?

Horse ownership in Virginia has changed dramatically over the years, thanks in large part to the quantum shift from horse racing (and breeding) to pleasure and trail riding. And with the majority of expenses related to horse ownership involving feeding, bedding, boarding and improvements, horse barns and run in sheds become paramount to an efficient operation, whether you have horses, donkeys or ponies. Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses are still among Virginia’s two most popular horse breeds (with Tennessee Walkers and Arabians rounding out the top four) of course,so choosing the right horse barn for your own “equine industry” is essential, both with regard to the type of horse barn you require as well as the ability to create and adapt your barns and stables accordingly.

Because there are a variety of reasons behind why you have horses in the first place, it’s important to consider your objectives when selecting a boarding facility. If you have a big horse operation, your needs are different from someone who has horses they keep as pets, and if you are involved in competitive horse events like dressage, or hunters and jumpers, you may need something entirely different from the kids at 4H who are going for confirmation and disposition. Modular storage barns offer a wide range of options, allowing you to customize your operation according to how many horses, you have, how involved you are in the competitive horse industry, the size of your property, whether you need additional space for tack, where to store feed, and how frequently or infrequently you engage in recreational riding. Additionally, you need to consider how your own horse operation impacts the environment, and how to incorporate the best management practices to ensure that both your horses and your community benefit from one another.

Selecting the right location for your barn is the number one priority of course, and with such varied terrain in Virginia, that task alone can be daunting. You need easy access to the road and a connection to utilities, plus you also need a site that drains well in wet weather and which doesn’t act as a wind tunnel during storms. Be aware that you need your manure barn downwind of the house, and your barn’s delivery area where it’s less visible to passersby. If you need to incorporate parking at your facility, you don’t want it to interfere with horse traffic. Other considerations include where feed and water are in relation to the horses themselves, how wide the aisles are, air flow in each stall, as well as lighting, flooring and overall security. Modular horse barns help solve most of these problems because of how easy they are to customize according to your needs, and the needs of your horses, to create a boarding facility you are both comfortable with!

With horse ownership exploding in Virginia, boarding solutions, particularly versatile and affordable boarding solutions, are paramount to a safe, healthy relationship for both you and your equine empire. And modular horse barns and run in sheds may be just the place to start.

When most of us were growing up the only thing anyone could count on to be delivered straight to your doorstep, was pizza. Grocery stores used to deliver, just like doctors used to make house calls, and gas was ten cents a gallon. These days getting something delivered usually means placing an order online or punching up an app on your phone. It takes minutes and the shipping options are limitless. But if you own horses or other livestock and your needs are more specific, the prospect of arranging home delivery can seem daunting. Contractors are an option if you want to build from scratch, but by the time you figure out what you want and what its going to cost to achieve our goals, you could already have an amazing horse barn on your property, the space you need to store feed and tack, and the added bonus of an office to run your equine empire from!

Horses and their owners have a variety of needs, and what works for the retired farmer who keeps his old plow horse around, and a racehorse breeder who may need to expand during foaling season, means modular horse barns make it possible to customize the exact barn or shed to meet your individual needs. Want ten stalls, a tack room, with a hay loft and an office? How about a place for your horses to help beat the heat? Or a wash bay for the FFA crowd? There are so many things to consider when it comes to designing the perfect barn or shed that delivery options should be the least of your worries.

Start by examining the kind of climate you live in, the number and breed of horses on your property, as well as other livestock that may need looking after. If summers are particularly brutal where you live, run in sheds offer shelter from the sun, and many come with additional space for things like hay bales, wheelbarrows, hay rakes, shovels and feed. Shed row barns can be expanded from basic stalls for one or two horses, to several horses and room for other equipment. A modular barn may be your best bet however, since they can be customized with the exact features you need to run your business more efficiently, and in many cases, you have the ability to move these structures where you need them, making them both versatile, and convenient. You can start small, with just the basics, or you can jump in with both feet to get a structure both you AND your horses will enjoy.

So whether you need a place to keep your daughter’s pony, or you are stabling a fleet of racehorses, don’t think for a minute that you are limited by location, budget, imagination or time. Because the only thing better than having a pizza delivered, is sitting on the front porch of your house watching your custom designed horse barn being delivered and set up on your property, while you put your feet up on the rails and watch the game on your new ipad!
